#133 Fort Worden Overlook

This is mixed media on buff printmaking paper- graphite, ink, acrylic, and then I added the pure white digitally (the paper version has white chalk but it didn't pop enough). Done with a photo reference from last summer.

#130 First Three Customers

I was at a coffee spot yesterday and kept getting noticed while sketching barristas or seated customers.  Then I started to sketch customers waiting for their espresso drink, or to pay.  I had a few minutes to sketch each one before they moved out of view.  Sketched in graphite, with digital color.  There will be a few more of these...  And check out Elsbeth and Roger's sites for their sketches!

#129 Still Life, Painted

It's a mystery to me why this composition works. The showy red vase is in the very middle of a square, but I like it there.  It's definitely a rule broken. Acrylic paint on panel, 8"x8".

Kinda dark, but I'm still playing with composition. The Gleason salt shaker is in the middle, but I think it's OK there because it forms a cluster of things.

#127 PT Fog

A foggy day in Port Townsend.  As you can see, I'm currently intrigued by doing small sketches/drawings that are characterized more by composition and variety of marks, than color.  This is very different from when I paint.  Mixed media.

The fur-trimmed hat I painted yesterday could be worn by a fashionista, or perhaps a small, white terrier.

I bought this hat at a charity store to wear as a character in a mystery dinner party.  Now I like it, but there aren't too many places to wear it where it wouldn't raise eyebrows due to the real fur.  

And once again, I had to change it from the first post!  Look in the next picture, and tell me you don't see a character from "Planet of the Apes".  Aagh!

Well, I still like the hat, and may try painting it again, where it doesn't look so simian, either face up, or balding and planked.

#122 Little Blue

I hope no one has gotten whiplash lately with a few same day swaps or crops here. Today there was briefly posted a majorly modified still life.. but it was, um, not very good.  So after dinner I painted this cute little pitcher, with a truely enormous grapefruit and basic tangerine. I may have to take another photo during daylight to get a crisper image.  Acrylic on 6" x 6" panel.

#121 Blue Hole

The locally famous blue hole forms over Sequim, after a snowfall. ( I cropped the plain, snowy bottom off the first posted image- this seemed like a better composition.)

#120 Olde Homestead

The old homestead in eastern Washington that R also featured recently in a photograph. I took a snapshot from a slightly different angle, and used artistic license to remove about 3 dead trees. This is mixed media, because it was sketched with pencil and markers, and is colored with actual paint (not digital like some of the last few).  9" x 16" on paper.

#119 Herbs and Brass

Jars of rosemary and savory, with the brass cup.  The lighting seemed a little bit cold, but it was interesting, so I left it that way.  Acrylic on 6" x 6" panel.

#118 Bayside

Using one of my old acrylic paintings for reference, I sketched this scene in ink markers.  I'm keeping the digital color subdued in favor of the drawing, but that could change.

How about a nice walk in Baja California.... while it snows here.  Graphite + digital color.

Columbia River.  There is some digital color, but I tried to keep it about the drawing, done in graphite on paper, 5" x 5".

#115 Graysmarsh Fields

A winter's day at Graysmarsh in Sequim.  The drawing was done in graphite, and with digital color, it's analogous to a hand-tinted aquatint etching.  I have to admit the drawing was done from a photo reference - I'm a cold wimp, and it was below freezing outside today.

Walking Man, found in a Port Angeles alley.  I took a few printmaking classes in the last century, and it's great to be able to replicate the look somewhat without all the chemicals and plate registration.

#112 Glass and Paint

It was rainy today so naturally I painted a glass banana slug and snail, in front of an imaginary abstract painting.  I modified this painting and reposted the image - sorry if that was confusing.  The glass banana slug was made by Mark Lauckner.  Acrylic on paper, 6" x 6".

There are shrubs along the Olympic Discovery Trail that make little white puffy things- I think they are called snow berries. Acrylic on panel, 6" x 6".

#110 Nash Overlook

Here is a landscape that I sketched on location, and color-enhanced digitally.  The shed and field are behind the Nash store in Dungeness.

A few hours later, I changed some values, but on the little copy!  So, without retracing some steps, I can't print out a large version of the following image, but it's large enough to post:

I'll try to replicate this image in the larger file size.  My plan is to complete any digital images in a big enough file to be able to print them for sale. I still need to determine the optimum size.
