Ancestress with Bow
I painted this from an old B&W photo, probably taken around 1915. Her name was also Marian. Acrylic on paper, 5" x 7".

New Version of Portrait
It was pointed out yesterday that some of the features in the portrait were not as representative as they could be. This is the dilemma of doing a daily painting, I suppose- trying to make a "perfect" painting vs. a quick painting that seems to catch the main idea. So, the painting was revised... and the original deleted.

Study of a Reclining Tube
This is a still life in oil started in a David Simons workshop in June, but just touched up. That's a house painting brush handle in the lower left- not a hair brush. My usual painting appearance is not noticeably improved by delicate finishing touches to my coiffure.

In Transit
From a photo, of a container ship entering the Panama canal. This is a 12"x12" acrylic painting, for something different.

What's Shakin?
Today was too hectic for painting, so I'm posting a little 4"x4" oil on canvas that was donated to Peninsula Friends of Animals for their recent yard sale. You may see this elephant again.... and she will remember you, of course.

Oregon in Autumn
This was done on gessoed paper - the gesso brush lines are obvious in the clouds. Also, this was based on a photo I took, probably in November. Acrylic, 6"x6". If we go camping, I'll bring square canvas sections taped to boards, along with both oil and acrylic paints!

Button Doll
We did some house painting today, but after dinner I was able to paint this button doll, seated on my easel under the Ott light. Acrylic on paper, 6"x6".

Sallie in Croatia
This is my friend Sallie in the doorway of an old church in Croatia. I think she may need someone to talk to in this painting, but for now she is appreciating the old architecture! Acrylic on canvas, 6"x6".

Cartagena Overlook
Acrylic on paper, 6"x6". I would like to say it was done en plein air, but it was based on one of my photos from a 2008 trip. I'm enjoying using acrylics- it seems easier to get the value range I want.

Canyon Edge
I have been looking at other artists' paintings done in a 6" x 6" format, and decided to try one. This is an acrylic, based on a plein air I did last year in Eastern Washington. Of course, this is a more liberal interpretation of the scene, but it was fun to paint. I may try this format in open acrylics outside - stay tuned! (I'll try not to have such a long gap in posts again)
