#157 September Lake View
From a camping trip in central Washington. I wanted to paint a warm scene today... a little bit of snow and rain is forecast for the next several days. Acrylic on 6" x 6" panel.

#156 More Sunrise
This was painted at home. I really liked that light at about 6 am, and took numerous photos. Oil on canvas, 11" x 14".

#155 Gate and Courtyard
Mostly painted in a Santa Barbara courtyard on a very breezy day. Today I lightened up the area behind the gate. Oil on canvas, 10" x 8".
I also tweaked post # 148... it was just sitting there, after all.

#154 Driftwood Dog
Well, I wanted to use a painting knife, so did this odd little painting of driftwood that looked like a dog. Based on the same photo as the post of 1/1/12, and it's acrylic on panel, 5"x 5". BTW, he has a stick, in case anyone wants to throw it.

#150 Coast Range III
If I were to live on the California coast near Santa Barbara, I would be one of the hundreds (thousands?) of plein air painters who can't stay away from the coast range. This was done in the studio from a drive-by shooting... I mean, photo. Oil on panel, 9"x12".

#149 More Coastal Hills
From a photo taken along Highway 1 north of Santa Barbara. Oil on 6" x 8" canvas. Still some glare, but better than the first post.

#148 Coastal Hills
This is a view of the coast range east of Carpinteria. Oil on canvas panel, 8" x 10.
I may not have time to post for about a week- but will do it if possible...

#146 Paradise
This is an oil painting done in Paradise (the one near Santa Barbara). 10" x 8" on canvas panel.
Below is a photo of the plein air spot...

#145 Dawn at Anzio and Sarasota
I painted this from a photo because the pink color is so fleeting. It takes less than ten minutes to change from dark to beige! Oil on 6" x 8" canvas.

#143 Borrego Overlook
This painting was a struggle, but it is done! I always think I can paint anywhere, but maybe giant piles of rocks are a stretch. This area west of Borrego Springs is thoroughly strewn with eroded boulders. Great view, of course. Oil on canvas, about 6" x 9".

#142 Ocotillo Evening
I painted this right before sunset, which is surprisingly early. The tall, tufty things are ocotillos, which bloom right after a rain. Oil on canvas, 6" x 8".

#141 Hell Hole Trailhead
This was painted from the trailhead of Hell Hole Canyon, looking north, on a partly cloudy day. The clouds shaded the hills in rapidly changing patterns- I had to just choose one. Oil on 8" x 10" canvas.

#139 Dinosaur with Fur-Trimmed Hat and Pink Purse
Um, this isn't really art, or at least not my art, for the most part. It was cool that this dinosaur was wearing a fur-trimmed hat, though.

#138 Lebec
While waiting on Saturday morning, I sketched the view from the Holiday Inn Express room in Lebec. This is Castaic Lake and highway 5, and it's a windy day. (note on Sunday: the car is fixed!)

#137 Alex's Auto Repair
Who would have thought that today's sketch would be of an auto repair shop. A rock made a hole in the radiator, but fortunately a really nice auto mechanic was nearby, and the radiator should be replaced soon. Also fortunately, the red tool boxes showed up well from my view. Alex, if you want to use this image for a business card, it's fine with me!
