Inspired by Land Sketch's value studies in ink, I'm doing some small (5" x 7") washes. This is a scene from Smith Rock in Oregon. I've struggled with painting it in other media because everything seems to be happening off to the left, but maybe having the high contrast at the top of the rock is helpful.

I love this delicious wet into wet! It's so dramatic and stormy. Yes, really like Land Sketch's work. Did you do Smith Rock in oils? Isn't it interesting how different media lend themselves to different subject matter.
ReplyDeleteWe are having fun learning the basics of Elements in class, though it's a little frustrating, as there are different versions on different systems, so some of us get lost frequently!
